⚠️ U.S. Tariff Increases – Starting April 2025
Important Announcement Regarding New Tariffs
Due to the new additional tariffs imposed by President Trump, the average tariff rate in the United States will significantly increase from 2.5% to 22.5% on April 9, 2025. This marks a substantial rise compared to the previous tariff rates, and the tariff on imports from Japan will be increased from 2.5% to 24%. As a first step, on April 5, 2025, a 10% tariff will be applied to all imports entering the U.S.
Our Response As of April 6, 2025, in response to these changes, we will be offering a 10% discount on purchases over $50. For example, if you purchase $55 worth of products from our store, you will pay only $49.50. Based on our average customer spend, most of our customers will benefit from this 10% discount. To make this process easier, the discount will be automatically applied when your total purchase exceeds $50, without the need for a coupon code. This will be visible before completing payment through PayPal.
On April 10, 2025, we are considering a further action, increasing the discount to 20% for purchases over $50, with the same conditions. We are still considering it to be fair to our customers. In this case, if you buy $55 worth of goods in our store, you will only pay $44. Even if the new 24% tariff is imposed in the US, the total amount you pay will be $54.56, slightly less than the original amount.
*This proposal has not been finalized yet. WIX's web store service does not allow you to change the discount rate for each region. If you use a coupon, you cannot cancel the coupon if you use it by mistake. There are various disadvantages, so we would like to solve the problem in a way that is convenient for everyone. We are currently considering it.
This measure will remain in effect until either the newly imposed 24% additional tariff on imports from Japan is abolished, or until our business can no longer sustain these changes. It is clear that this is a difficult situation for Japanese companies, including ours, but we are prepared to make these efforts, even if it means running at a loss for some products. Normally, large manufacturing lines are created to reduce costs, and mass-produced products are made at lower prices. However, the reason our products remain affordable is that they are assembled by the designers themselves and sold directly. Cutting profits from this process is essentially reducing labor costs, which is a very tough challenge.
Looking Ahead to the Future of Vintage Computers While we prefer not to engage in political discussions, the world of vintage computers, which we love as a hobby, is not supposed to require large sums of money and should be accessible for everyone, from children to elderly people. However, many of the parts used in this hobby are sourced from China (this is not to support China), and there are numerous fantastic hardware and hacking items created by enthusiasts from various countries. It is nearly impossible to procure all of these from within the U.S. market, and these items have now been subjected to high tariffs. We expect that these price increases will continue, and the high tariffs imposed by the U.S. may lead to further high tariffs between other countries as well. This trend has already begun.
While it may be unfortunate when a computer breaks down, it is usually a minor issue that can be repaired. Ultimately, we believe that it is most important for us computer enthusiasts to remain peaceful, healthy, and happy. We will continue to share both the joys and challenges with all of you and work to ensure that this wonderful vintage computer culture does not fade away.
